Artist Statement

As a high school student, I take pride in my work weather it being in English or my art classes! So when I had the chance to choose my art classes I chose Digital Design and Photography, I already knew that I loved taking photos of nature and all that good stuff but I was just a little skeptical of Digital Design. The reason for that was because the simple fact of it being an art form I have never done before. I didn't know how to work with Photoshop and I didn't really understand anything to do with Illustrator! I soon found myself playing around with the tools and creating random pieces that I would throw together and trash because they were for fun! We were given many assignments ranging from our school library mural to designing and building a milk carton! The one assignment that I gave my all at was the HAND competition, which involved students around our county to create a piece that could inform people about affordable housing. We were asked to create a slogan and something that would appeal to people everywhere. In the project shown below, I created a bright color scheme that would be inviting. The real theme of the piece was about family and how all families need a place to call home! I used the element of a house in the middle and the two families going home. I also added the state of Indiana as the "A" to embellish it a little more so it wasn't boring! Voice was a huge part of that piece, For me I really agree with everything that HAND does and how they aren't doing it for them they are doing it for the people. I also believe that for a family to be a family they need a home, somewhere where they can grow and evolve into the best people that they can be! In the end, Digital Design was a really great experience and I can't wait to further my skills in the design world!
